On Friday, January 24, 2020, Mr. Leo Johnson Jr. answered the call of God, and stepped into His embrace and the sweet and painless rest reserved for the righteous. A Graveside Service will be held Thursday January 30. 2020 at Greenleaf Cemetery at 2pm with Rev. Ernest Kirk Officiating.

Mr. Leo Johnson, Jr. was born February 23, 1946 in Palestine, Texas to Mr. Leo Johnson, Sr. and Mrs. Leola Green Johnson. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age. He affiliated with Greater Faith church in Brownwood.

Mr. Johnson attended elementary and high school in Palestine, Texas, and graduated from A.M. Story High School in 1964. He then went on to Prairie View A & M College and earned his degree in Agricultural Engineering.

While at Prairie View, Mr. Johnson met the love of his life, Miss Leonore Marshall. They married in 1968, at the beginning of their senior year at Prairie View.

After graduation, Mr. Johnson was employed by the US Department of Agriculture’s United States Forest service. This job was interrupted by a commitment to the United States Navy. After fulfilling that obligation, Mr. Johnson went to work for the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, formerly known as the Soil Conservation Service where he worked in many places, before settling in Brownwood, Texas in 1974, where he retired in 1999 after 30 years of service.

Mr. Johnson was involved in youth and adult sports in and around Brownwood for many years as a coach, umpire and for a time as president of the Brownwood Umpires Association.

On Friday, January 24, 2020, Mr. Johnson answered the call of God, and stepped into His embrace and the sweet and painless rest reserved for the righteous.

Among those who preceded him from this earthly life into eternity are his parents: Leo and Leola Johnson, his sister, Rosetta Hewitt, his grandparents, and several aunts,
uncles, and cousins.

Among those who remain to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Leonore Marshall Johnson of Brownwood, Texas; father-in-law, Alphonso L. Davis of Killeen, Texas; son, Eric Leo Johnson (SteFanie) of Concord, California; son, Michael Shane Johnson of Austin, Texas; daughter, Jerilyn Johnson Emerson(Curtis) of Waldorf, Maryland; two grandchildren, Naomi Johnson and Stefan Jones of California; brother, William Lyons of Austin, Texas; brother, Harold Lyons of Houston, Texas; sister, Sherry West of Middletown, Delaware; sister, Dr. Jean Robb(Al) of Edenton, North Carolina; brother-in-law, Leonard Marshall of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, loved ones and friends. Leonore , please accept our deepest sympathies at this time. I remember Leo and his big laugh and how much time he gave to the boys with soccer--and joking with all of us. . Michael and Melody playing in the mud while Eric and Scott played their games. Leo will be missed. God bless...lots of hugs and love to you all.

Jo, Tim, Melody, Scott *Collier* and families.
